Ideal adsorption of trace organics onto activated carbon in bisolute system
|
Abstract:
The study on adsorption isotherms of organics onto activated carbon showed that the simplified model derived from the Ideal Adsorbed Solution Theory (IAST) can satisfactorily explain the ideal adsorption on activated carbon of trace organics in bisolute system with a dominant component. The model also explains the fact that Henry coefficient is not simply in inverse proportion to the concentration of dominant solute. The experiment results about adsorption of chloroform and tetrachloromethane in bisolute system containing phenol and aniline onto granular activated carbon (GAC) agreed well with model prediction. The factors of Henry coefficient are Freundrich parameters of solute and the equilibrium concentration of dominant solute. Sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the Freundrich parameters had greater effect on Henry coefficient than the concentration of dominant solute.
