GAS CHROMATOGRAPHIC DETERMINATION OF CHLOROBENZENES IN INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER
|
Abstract:
A gas chromatographic method for determination of chlorobenzenes in wastewater was described. A water sample (250ml) was transferred into a 500ml separatory funnel and extracted with 25ml petroleum ether. An extract of 3ml was passed through a silica column containing 3g activated silica gel and a 2cm-layer of anhydrous sodium sulfate. Column was then eluted with 10ml petroleum ether. 8ml eluate was collected and analyzed by ECD gas chromatography. Bentone-34 modified with SF-86 on 80-100 mesh Chromosorb W. HP was used for column packing. All of the 12 chlorobenzenes were completely separated. The mean recovery for high and low level chlorobenzenes was 93.5% and the maximum relative standard deviation was less than 4 %. Elution conditions for chlorobenzenes in presence of BHC and DDT were presented and MDLs for each chlorobenzene were also examined. The method described here possesses great advantage over others to analysis of chlorobenzene mixtures. It has been successfully applied to determination of chlorobenzenes in industrial wastewater as well.
