Effects of sequencing batch and continuous reactor on the hydrogen partial pressure in the anaerobic system
|
Abstract:
The change of the hydrogen partial pressure was investigated in anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (ASBR) and continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) using glucose as substrate under the anaerobic condition. The results indicated that the content of glycogen kept in 142.52 mg·g-1, the hydrogen partial pressure was stabilized in 291.3 Pa and the maximum rate of hydrogen utilization (HUR) was 0.703 g·g-1·d-1 in CSTR. 50.17% glucose transformed to glycogen in cell bodies, and the hydrogen partial pressure reached to the maximum (14.3 Pa) after the influent in ASBR. In the end of the reaction, the glycogen in microorganism was metabolized completely, the hydrogen partial pressure was the lowest (3.5 Pa), and the maximum HUR in sludge was 1.719 g·g-1·d-1. The decrease of hydrogen partial pressure ensured the anaerobic system operated efficiently and steadily in batch reactors due to the higher hydrogen utilization rate and the presence of glycogen.
