Biodegradation kinetics of a mixture containing quinoline and glucose by burkholderia pickettii strain
|
Abstract:
The kinetics of utilization of a mixture of quinoline and glucose by Burkholderia pickettii was studied. It was found that quinoline and glucose can be degraded by the bacteria simultaneously, and the biodegradation rate of quinoline was increased in the presence of glucose, while glucose degradation was inhibited by quinoline. The kinetics of both quinoline and glucose follow first-order model at the mixture concentration of 50mg·L-1 quinoline with 34, 60 or 110mg·L-1 glucose. When the co-substrates concentration changed to 300mg·L-1 quinoline with 110, 320 or 690mg·L-1 glucose, quinoline degradation no longer followed first-order model, although glucose degradation was still first-order at glucose concentration 110mg·L-1 , glucose kinetics at glucose concentration 320 and 690mg·L-1 was changed to zero-order.
