Abstract:
Backflushing is a useful technique to remove deposits and internal clogging of the membrane in membrane bioreactors and to increase the rate of permeate flux.An experiment was carried out to use filtered water for backflushing. An equation was derived for optimum backflush interval determination and it was tested in a crossflow ultrafiltration membrane bioreactor. This bioreactor was a laboratory scale system composed of activated sludge bioreactor with a hollow fiber membrane module. The equation is expressed as f(t)=(Q f- Q b)/( t f- t b).Based on this,an automatic control of optimum backflush interval can be accomplished with a computer control system.
