WASTEWATER TREATMENT BY INIEGRATED BIOLOGICAL POND SYSTEM
|
Abstract:
A low-cost pond system was operated to purify wastewater from amedium-sized Chinese city. The experiments were conducted in 3 phases andthe system was divided into 3 functional regions.macrophytes were planted inseries in the ponds. Operation parameters in various pollution and hydraulicloadings were studied. The pond system revealed greater purification efficie-ncies than conventional oxidation pond and general macrophyte pond.Thesystem attained Ligh reductions in COD,BOD,TSS,N,P, bacteria, virusand mutagenic effect. The other water quality parameters were also improvedto some extent. The allelopathic effect of the macrophyted on algae was te-sted. A lot of macrophyte biomass and other aquatic products were harvestedfrom the ponds at the same time. The effluent from this system could beused in fishery and irrigation.
