Adsorption of Escherichia coli to activated carbon fibers supporting silver
|
Abstract:
Escherichia coli JM109 was chosen to carry out bacterial adsorption experiment in this study.Adsorbed number of E.coli on the activated carbon fibers supporting silver(ACF(Ag)) was determined by means of scanning electron microscopy(SEM) to evaluate the adsorption character of the ACF(Ag).SEM revealed preferential adsorption of the bacteria to the groove of the ACF(Ag).Number of bacteria adsorbed on the ACF(Ag) increased with increasing silver content and specific surface area of the ACF(Ag).Moreover, results showed that adsorption of bacteria depended on the silver particles size. The difference in the kinetics of adsorption of E.coli to the ACF(Ag) was also investigated.
