THERMODYNAMICS OF ADSORPTION OF CARBON DISULPHIDE VAPOUR ON ACTIVATED CARBON FIBER
|
Abstract:
Adsorption isotherms of carbon disulphide(CS2) vapour on the granular activated carbon (GAC) and several kinds of activated carbon fiber (ACF) were determined by gravimetric method. The thermodynamics of the adsorption was also studied. The results indicated that ACF adsorbs CS2 vapour in a physical way with higher adsorption heat, work, and entropy than GAC does. The order of adsorption heat, work, and entropy is. JPANACF (Japanese polyacrylo-nitrile-based ACF) > CPANACF (Chinese PANACF) > CELACF (cellulose based ACF) >PHNACF (phenolic-based ACF) > GAC. The curves of the adsorption heat suggested that the surface of ACF and GAC used is heterogeneous. The experiment leads to the conclusion that PANACF is the best adsorbent among those studied.
