Nitrate removal from drinking water by three-dimension electrode electrochemical-biofilm reactors
|
Abstract:
Nitrste removal from drinking water through autotrophic denitrification by two bipolar-three-dimension-electrode-biofilm reactors with anthracite or GAC as medium was studied. This technique combined autotrophic denitrification process with bipolar-three-dimension-electrode hydrogen generating process. The nitrate can be removcd effectively by both reactors without adding any organic carbon. The electric current efficiency of the reactor using anthracite as medium is up to 204 %, and that of GAC is up to 185 %. As the HRT more than 2.1—2.5 hours, both reactors can get nearly 100 % nitrate removal. When treating water of 21.4 mg(NO3- -N )/L at 34℃ and 4.97V,The denitrification rate of the reactor with anthracite is 0.247 mg(NO3- -N)/cm2 of electrade surface/day,and that of one with GAC is 0.213 mg(NO3- -N)/cm2 of electrode surface/day.
