EFFECTS OF CADMIUM ON NITRATE REDUCTASE AND SPEROXIDE DISMUTASE OF SUBMERGED MACROPHYTES
|
Abstract:
Physiological and biochemical effects of cadmium on four species of submerged macrophytes were tested. The results showed that above certain concentration, Cd could induce the activity of nitrate reductase, and inhibit the activity of superoxide dismutase. Thus the antioxidant defense system of these species was injured. There was a positive correlation between dose and effect. Based on the results of this study the activity of superoxide dismutase of submerged macrophytes are expected to be used to monitor and evaluate aquatic ecosystem as a biomarker.
