Effects of Cadmium on Seed Germination, Seedling Growth and Oxidase Isozymes in Crops
|
Abstract:
This paper discusses the influence of Cadmium on seed germination, seedlings growth and oxidasp isozymes of four crops which have been exposed to Cd solution of various concentrations. Obvious inhibitory effects were identified in seedling growth of Zea mays and Cucttrbita pepo. Peroxidase (POD) isozyme bands in roots of treated Zea mays and Cucurbita pepo are less than those in control crops. Apparent correlation between inhibitive effects and changes of POD isozyme was observed. The changes could be taken as index for the resistance of the crops ro Cd damage. The cytochrome oxidise (COD) isozyme changes, may also relate to the harmful effects of Cd in Raphanus sativus (Shawo) and Cucurbits pepo.
