Study on Sodium Alginate and Poly vinyl Alcohol as Entrapping Agents
|
Abstract:
In this study, two materials, namely, sodium algi-nate and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were used as entrapping agents to produce immobilized micro-bial beads. Through orthogonal test, the optimal conditions of entrapping were determined for the two agents by using TOC removal efficiency as the primary criterion and bead strength as the auxiliary criterion. Comparisons were also made ber- ween the properties of the two kinds of immobilized micirobial beads. It was observed that the beads made from PVA have higher stability and strength than those made from sodium, alginate, and are more suitable for wastewater treatment. However, their mass diffusivity should, be improved.
