NUMERICAL STUDY ON WATER EXCHANGE IN JIAOZHOU BAY
|
Abstract:
ECOM (Estuary Coastal Ocean Model) is used to simulate the tidal system and the tidally driven movement of water particles in Jiaozhou Bay, China. Jiaozhou Bay is divided into six parts. The averaged residence time and the water exchange patterns in the different parts are provided quantitatively. It is shown that the structure of the current field plays a decisive role in water exchange. The two residual eddies in the bay can capture the particles and the ultimate ability of water exchange depends on the initial time of particle releasing. The distribution of particles shows that the sewage discharged from the eastern shore of the bay has little effect on the tourism and agriculture of the bay.
