STUDIES ON THE POLYMERIZATION OF ACRYLAMIDE INITIATED BY POTASSIUM PERSULFATE IN THE PRESENCE OF MANGANOUS SALTS
|
Abstract:
In the presence of manganous salts, the polymerization kinetics of acrylamide initiated by potassium persulfate has been studied dilatometrically and the rate equation of the polymerization can be expressed as follows: RP=9.92×108 exp {- 13,700/RT} Mn2+]0 M]KPS]1/2,where Mn2+],M] andKPS] were the concentration of manganous salts, monomer acrylamide and initiator potassium persulfate respectively. The experimental results have showed that only the induction of polymerization was affected by manganous salts while the polymerization rate as well as polymer molecular weight was not affected to detectable degre. The mechanism of polymerization has been studied.
