STUDY ON THE STABILIZATION OF POLYACRYLONITRILE FIBER CATALYZED BY SbCl_3

Abstract:
A method of preparing heat stable and fire retarding polyacrylonitrile (PAN) using SbCl3-diphenyl ether as catalytic system was reported. Based on the experimental results of IR., elemental analysis, DTA., An unzipping cyclization mechannizm of PAN was proposed. By this method heat stable fire retarding PANF as well as semiconductive and conductive fiber can be prepared. Furthermore, the PANF. treated by this method is so satble that good quality carbon fiber and conductive fiber can be rapidly produced in argon or in air.
