Development of Applications of Immobilized Ionic Liquids in Catalysis and Separation Processes
|
Abstract:
The high cost and unendurable viscosity of ionic liquids restrict the industrial application. Immobilization of ionic liquids is the process of filling the pores of supported materials with ionic liquids. Immobilization can be performed by physical adsorption or chemical bonding through ionic liquids and the surface of supporting materials. The immobilization of ionic liquids enlarges the surface area of ionic liquids, thus their utilization efficiency and stability can be improved. Immobilized ionic liquids are in solid phase, thus they are easily recovered. The methods for immobilization and the applications of immobilized ionic liquids in catalysis and separation processes are reviewed in this paper.
