SPM Effect and Its Compensation of RZ-ODPASK Modulation Format in Optical Transmission

Abstract:
For optical single-channel transmission system of 40 Gbs RZ-ODPASK modulation format,the influence of self-phase modulation (SPM) effect on the differential phase demodulation performance of phase tributary is studied.Expression for the difference of two adjacent symbols' nonlinear-phase-shift,owning to SPM effect,is analytically derived.Based on this result,one kind of phase precompensation method is suggested.Simulation results show that this scheme can effectively decrease the eye-opening penalty of the phase tributary of RZ-ODPASK system,and can improve the performance of RZ-ODPASK long-haul transmission system.
