Numerical Analysis and Experiment of Single Fiber Optic Tweezers Used in Cell Manipulation
|
Abstract:
A novel tapered fiber probe was proposed and fabricated using heating and drawing method. With this probe,a single fiber optic tweezers was constructed. The Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method was used to calculate the output optical field of the tapered single fiber optical tweezers. The transverse and axial trapping forces were then obtained by integrating the Maxwell stress tensor in stable state. And the influences of different sizes and diffractive indexes microscopic particles on the optical force were considered. In the experiment, this single fiber optic tweezers successfully trapped a yeast cell in 3D.The trapped yeast cell can be transferred in two optical potential well of two tapered fiber optic tweezers. This fiber optic tweezers system is simple, compact, flexible and easily to be adjusted.
