Assembly and Structural Characteristics of Organic Anion-pillared Hydrotalcites
|
Abstract:
Succinate, adipate, dodecyl sulfonate, benzoate, p-hydroxybenzoate and terephthalate-pillared hydrotalcites have been successfully synthesized by direct reaction of the free acid with Mg4Al2(OH)12CO3.4H2O precursor. The samples thus obtained were characterized by XRD, FTIR and DTA. The results show that the initial interlayer carbonate ions can be completely replaced by the six chosen organic anions under the controlled conditions employed. The pillared-hydrotalcites have a crystalline layered structure and the interlayer distance of the organic anion-pillared hydrotalcite is related to the size of interlayer anion. It is also found that the thermal stability of the interlayer organic anion depends on its polarity and its interaction with the sheets.
