Orbital Angular Momentum of High-order Elliptical Hermite-Gaussian Beams

Abstract:
According to the basic theory of the orbital angular momentum of light under paraxial condition and the field distribution of high-order elliptical Hermite-Gaussian beams,the orbital angular momentum of high-order elliptical Hermite-Gaussian beams is theoretically analyzed by using tensor method.The formula for finding the orbital angular momentum density of such beams is derived and applied to the numerical analysis of the orbital angular momentum density under some given parameters.The orbital angular momentum per photon is calculated,which is found to increase with the order of the elliptical Hermite-Gaussian beams.The results show that the elliptical Hermite-Gaussian beams can provide much higher orbital angular momentum than elliptical Gaussian beams or Laguerre-Gaussian beams.
