Programmable Optical Buffer For Optical Burst Switching Network

Abstract:
Two types of programmable optical buffer(cross type and multi-port switch type)for optical burst switching network were presented.The two types are both fit for the changeability and superlength of optical burst packet and they have the extra advantages:compact,expandable structure and low cost .In the cross type the alterable delay time could be realized by designating the circulation times of the optical signal in the fiber loop of the sub-buffer module.In the multi-port type the alterable delay time could be realized by desiganating the circulation times of the optical signal in the optical loop that consisted by the corresponding ports of the two multi-port switches and the fiber delay lines.The simulation experiment was carried out and the result shows that the buffer time of the optical burst packet could be precise to the level of ns and the two types of buffer are adapted to solution the collision of the optical burst packet in the optical burst switching network.
