Abstract:

Based on the theory of thermal emission polarization and the method of thermal emission polarization detection, the relation between the surface roughness of aluminum and steel plates and their degree of linear polarization of the thermal emission was studied by using a kind of thermal imaging polarimeter. The surfaces of metal plates were made by peening with glass spheres and planer. Experimental results show that when the viewing angle is smaller, the metal surfaces fabricated by peening with glass spheres have a little effect on their degree of linear polarization of the thermal emission, while the metal plate surfaces fabricated by planer have a large effect on their degree of linear polarization of the thermal emission. When the viewing angle is larger, the degree of linear polarization of the thermal emission of all kinds of the metal plate increases with the decrease of the metal plate surface roughness.
