An Analysis of the Performance of Stacked Parallel-Plate Blumlein Pulse Generators
|
Abstract:
The performance of single and stacked parallel-plate Blumlein pulse generators have been analyzed by combining the space-time diagram and the moments method. The numerical results show that the on-state resistance of the switch should be as small as possible in order to get a good performance of the system. The matched loads of a Blumlein pulse generator for maximum energy output or for the maximum voltage output are different. The voltage matched load of stacked Blumleins can be well estimated from the one of a single Blumlein, but the energy matched load extrapolated from the single Blumlein is overestimated. It is also shown that the ratio of the spacing of the three conductor plates to the width of the plates determines the voltage matched load and the energy matched load, and influences the voltage multiplication factor and the efficiency of energy output.
