Surface States of Semi-infinite One-dimensional Photonic Crystals Adjacented to Dispersive Medium Background
|
Abstract:
The Bloch theorem and the transfer matrix is employed to analyse the electric field and the dispersion behaviour of localized surface states supported in the surface of a semi-infinite one-dimensional(1D) photonic crystal(PC) that is adjacent to an dispersive medium background. The crystal consists of two composite layers.Compared with the surface modes of a semi-infinite 1D photonic crystal that is adjacent to the vacuum, the dispersion curves of the 1D photonic crystal is cut in the low bandgaps at suitable stack sequences. The group velocity of the surface mode has great changes when the stack sequence is different. The group velocity is quick when the refractive index of the material adjacent to the dispersive medium is small; the group velocity is slow when the refractive index of the material adjacent to the dispersive medium is large.
