Experimental and Theoretical Investigations on Optical Threshold Function Used in All-Optical Buffer
|
Abstract:
An all-optical buffer using an OTF(optical threshold function) is demonstrated. The OTF consists of two coupled asymmetrical SOA ring lasers. It has two output states at two wavelengths.Optical packets can be routed to the buffer port by using the OTF that controls a wavelength converter switch.Theoretical model for the OTF is established.Numerical calculation and experimental evidence of its dynamic output at 10 Gbit/s are given. The experiment results are in agreement with the calculation results. The results indicate that a contrast ratio of about 30 dB between the output states in OTF can be obtained.
