Analysis of Extinction Ratio Characteristics of Wavelength Conversion Based on Cross-gain Modulation in LOA
|
Abstract:
A theoretical model of wavelength conversion based on cross-gain modulation in a linear optical amplifier (LOA) is established. The output extinction ratio of wavelength conversion based on cross-gain modulation (XGM) is studied numerically. The influences of LOA pump and probe light parameters on extinction ratio characteristics of converted signals are discussed. The results show that the output extinction ratio gets larger as the increase of pump wavelength but becomes smaller as the increase of probe wavelength; higher pump power and lower probe power have advantages to achieve the higher extinction ratio; the output extinction ratio of down wavelength conversion is larger in evidence than that of up wavelength conversion.
