Influence of Controllable Self-steepening on Soliton Propagation in Negative-index Materials
|
Abstract:
The propagation property of electromagnetic solitons in the negative-index material with a nonlinear polarization is investigated numerically, and the influence of the controllable self-steeping resulted from the dispersive permeability of negative-index material on the propagation property of solitons is analyzed. It is shown that, like the positive self-steeping effect in an ordinary medium, the negative SS effect also leads to the asymmetry of soliton, the shift of soliton center, and the decay of higher-order solitons. The direction of the shift of soliton center is decided by the sign of self-steeping.Furthermore,to some extent, the shift of soliton center resulted from 3rd-order dispersion can be avoided through the use of controllable self-steeping effect, and the soliton can propagate along the propagation axis.
