SYNERGISTIC MECHANO-CHEMICAL EFFECT DURING FRE''ITING WEAR OF 316LSS
|
Abstract:
The synergistic effect between fretting wear and corrosion of 316L stainless steel (316LSS) in different NaCl solutions has been investigated with a sphere\|plane contact device. The results showed that the synergistic effect was remarkable, while mechanical action was the dominative factor for inducing damage. The evolutions of mechanical damage rate (including corrosion promoted section) and synergistic damage against the variations of pH and concentration of Cl - of the solutions were similar to each other. On the other hand, the evolution of fretting current as a function of time was of inter relationship with the occurrence of local corrosion such as crevice attack in fretting. Both heavy alkaline, acidic mediums and the solution of high Cl - concentration in it would result in serious fretting damage. And mechanical action might be of more remarkable promotion to corrosion in neutral mediums.
