RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CORROSION RESISTANCE AND CORROSION POTENTIAL OF ALUMINIUM ALLOYS IN SEAWATER
|
Abstract:
On the basis of corrosion data and corrosion potentials of aluminium alloys exposed to seawater at Qingdao area, the relationship between corrosion resistance and corrosion potentials of aluminium alloys was discussed. Seawater Corrosion resistance of LY12CZ and LC4CS alloys was very poor, and it was also poor for LD2CS, L4M and LF3M alloys. LF2Y2, LF6M, LF21M and 180YS alloys had good corrosion resistance in seawater. The aluminium alloys with similar corosion resistance had a similar pattern for their corrosion potential time curves. The aluminium alloys that had good corrosion resistance all possessed relativily negative initial and then stable potential. Meanwhile, they took longer time to reach stability. When stability reached, their potentials were fluctuating for a longer time. The alloys which have poor corrosion resistance showed an oppsite situation.
