EFFECT OF HYDROGEN ON PLASTIC DEFORMATIONAT CRACK-TIP OF A537 STEEL
|
Abstract:
The effect of hydrogen on the strain distribution at crack tip and the relative crackopening displacement has been studied in situ by the laser speckle interferometery (SPI) forsingle-edge notched plate specimens of A537 steel under the condition of 6h hydrogen charging in3.5% NaCl solution at a potential of-1400mV(SCE). The stress-strain behaviour for the smooth specimens with and without hydrogen charging has been compared and the fatigue fracturemorphology has been examined. The experiment results showed that the presence of hydrogen incrack-tip material resulted in a decrease of both plastic zone size and the relative crack--openingdisplacement.
