STUDY ON FORMATION MECHANISM OF CRACKS IN DRUM OF CEMENT ROTARY KILN

Abstract:
The characteristic and formation mechanism of cracks in the durm of a rotary kiln,which was used in the cement subfactory of shanxi Chemical Fertilizer Plant, are studied by means of fracture observation, metallograph, scanning electron microscope. Experimental results show that the cracks in the drum of the rotary kiln are caused by corrosion. The formation reasons of the cracks are as following: the base metal of the drum is a low carbon steel which is corrosion-sensitive to corrosive ions, and the corrosion cracks are formed under the action of crevice corrosion and stress corrosion. Factors affecting the process may include material selection manufacture technology (especially in welding), the composition of the sludge and the gas atomsphere inside the rotary kiln, etc.These conclusions may provide a necessary experimental base for repairing the cracks in the drum, the design and manufacture of a new drum, safety inspection of the drum in operation.
