FAILURE ANALYSIS OF A BURST FOR A NATURAL GAS PIPELINE

A natural gas pipeline ruptured suddenly along the spiral\|weld seam under normal operation pressure. Investigation and laboratory examination indicated that the cracking was caused by sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC). The examination results showed that martensite and high residual stress due to welding process by repair increased the susceptibility to SSCC\=
