A REVIEW ON STUDIES OF INTERNAL STRESS IN OXIDE SCALES
|
Abstract:
The stresses generated in oxide scales during oxidation of metals may cause the oxide scale to crack and spall. It is significant to study the oxide stress in order to understand the mechanism of cracking of the oxide scale and improve the oxidation resistance of metals. In this paper, the processes of generation and relaxation of the oxide stress and in-situ measurement techniques are briefly introduced. New progress in research on oxide stresses and the effect of rare earth elements is also reviewed.
