LOW-TEMPERATURE EVENT DURING THE WARM PERIOD OF HOLOCENE IN CHINA AND ITS GEOLOGICAL IMPLICATION
|
Abstract:
The climate of Holocene is warm, especially in the Middle Holocene. However, there is a short low-temperature event commonly discovered in many sites on the world during this period. The short low-temperature event was distinguished in China. It began about 5 500a B. P. in the north and about 4 500a B. P. in the south. Based upon systematic studies on palynology, animal fossils, glacial advance and recession in the western China, sea level fluctuation and astronomy of Holocene in China, it may indicate that the ages of the low-temperature event got older from the south to the north. The low-temperature event in the Holocene plays an important rule in the study on distribution and structure of the Holocene sediments, environment changes, development of lakes and swamps, sea level fluctuation, formation of beach placer, division of ground water beds, glacial advance and recession in the west of China and climatic sequence during the Holocene in China.
