METHODS FOR STUDY AND EVALUATION OF ANTICORROSION PERFORMANCE OF ORGANIC COATINGS
|
Abstract:
Anticorrosion performance of organic coatings depends on their structure, chemical composition and electrochemical behavior, and the interaction between coatings and metal interface etc.,so the measuring method to character these performance is important element of coating science.Main measuring methods being widely used to study and evaluate the anticorrosion perfromance of organic coatings have been reviewed in this paper. Each method possesses different characteristics and application field:conventional analysis methods are simple and feasible, but the results from them are generally inaccurate, dispersive, and it is often difficult to gain the same results from different experiments;electrochemical method is convenient and can give us plenty information which is helpful to investigate the anticorrosion mechanism and to evaluate the anticorrosion performance of coatings quantificationally and semis-quantificationally,but special equipment is needed for electrochemical methods, and some of them is very expensive;the information about chemical composition and structure of coatings material can be obtained by optical spectroscopy and surface analysis technique respectively.Combination of various methods may help to evaluate the anticorrosion performance and investigate the relevant machansism of organic coatings.
