THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROTECTION POTENTIAL AGAINST PITTING CORROSION
|
Abstract:
Based on the studies of a simulating pitting corrosion cell and the electrochemical behaviours of the occluded anode of Cr13, 1Cr18Ni9Ti and 1Cr18Ni9 stainless steels in simulating anolytes, it is demonstrated experimentally that, protection potential against pitting corrosion (E_p) is a microscopic reflection of repassivation within the pit in pitting corrosion system, not the immunity potential or the corrosion potential of the pit of the system. Thus, various conjuctures on the significance of the potential are clarified.
