A discussion was made on the new revised geologic time scale (F.M.Gradstein et al .) and the proposal to redefine the Quaternary (B. Pillans) both appeared in Episodes, Vol. 27, No.2, June 2004. The author reject the proposal that the Quaternary be redefined as a Subsystem (Subperiod) and support the present opinion to retain the Quaternary as a formal chronostratigraphic unit; that is a System(Period)in the new geologic time scale of 2004.
