SOME PROBLEMS OF THE STUDY ON GLOBAL CHANGE

The scientists of Quaternary geology are facing a new situation in which the global change studies have been developed. They have to adjust their research strategy to cope with it. It is necessary to transfer their highlight from the Quaternary geologic change in general to the change during the last 150 000a, especially during the last 25 000a to 1000a, for extraction of the information on natural environment. In the study on geological and environmental processes, an emphasis should be put on the interactions between the different processes and their dynamic mechanisms, the conceptions on time scale and space scale, and the tracers for the material exchange and energy exchange. It is also necessary to pay much more attention to the study of influence of human activities on the environment so as to understand the stage of the process of natural evolution at which the modern living environment is located. On the basis of the environmental records some different models must be established using modern analysis techeniques on a super computer and then can be refined from the past and present environmental records so as to predict the future trend of environmental change, especially the climatic change.
