High resolution magnetostratigraphy of the Luochuan loess-paleosol sequence in the central Chinese Loess Plateau
|
Abstract:
The Luochuan section is one of the best sections in the central Loess Plateau, but the exact stratigraphical positions of the magnetic polarity boundaries are not well studied. In this paper, we report detailed paleomagnetic investigations of the loess-paleosol sequences at Luochuan. Our results indicate that the Matuyama/Brunhes Boundary occurs at the top of soil S8 and the upper and lower boundaries of the Jaramillo Normal Subchron occur at the top of soil S10 and loess L13, respectively. The upper and lower boundaries of the Olduvai Normal Subchron occur at the top of soil S25 and loess L29, corresponding to the top of previous divided units WS2 and WL3. We did not find the lower boundary of Matuyama Chron in this study.
