HF radar observation of Longwang Typhoon in the Taiwan Straight
|
Abstract:
HF surface wave radar system OSMAR2003 was developed by Radio Wave Propagation Laboratory of Wuhan University and has been operated in Fujian Province since 2005.The radar can be employed to sense remotely sea surface dynamic parameters such as wave, wind field and surface current velocity in the Taiwan Straight in all-weather.This paper compares the vector wind data of Longwang Typhoon measured by OSMAR2003 with those by the buoys and the satellite QuikSCAT,and then presents the comparison results. The results indicate that OSMAR2003 radar system congruously displayed the wind vector field and its evolutions, which can be used in surveillance of disaster ocean weather.
