MEIOSIS AND SYNAPTONEMAL COMPLEX KARYOTYPE OF THE EEL (Monopterus albus ZUIEW)
|
Abstract:
The progression of the prophase stages of meiosis in Eel (Monopterus albus Zuiew) gonads has been reported from a series of observations of Eels whose body lengths range from 200 mm to 550 mm. With a combination of surface spreading and silver staining techniques synaptonemal complexs (SCs) of the Eel were observed by electron microscopy. Twelve SCs are formed during the pachytene and no heteromorphic chromosomes is found. The SC karyotype of the Eel has been constructed.
