r-GT ENZYME ACTIVITY AND LOCATION OF LIVER AND LUNG DURING DEVELOPMENT OF RAT
|
Abstract:
The activity and location of r-GT in rat liver and lung were studied during normal development with biochemical and histochemical methods. It was found that the activity of r-GT in rat liver began to rise from 17-days-old-fetus and reached a high peak at 21-days-old-fetus. At 1 st day after birth, it decreased markedly, 6 th day after birth, it decreased to a low level of adult value. In fctal poriod, r-GT is mainly located in liver cells, but after birth, it is located mainly in the bile canaliculi. These results seem to indicate that fetal liver r-GT takes part in the transfer of arnino acids in cellular membrencc of the liver, After birth, it probably takes part in detoxination. The activity of lung r-GT increases gradually with development. Lung r-GT in adult rats is located in the epithelial cells of branchus. This result seems to indicate that the lung r-GT takes part in detoxination.
