FISHES OF GENUS Sikukia (TELEOSTEI,CYPRINIFORMES, CYPRINIDAE) IN LANCANGJIANG RIVER SYSTEM (Cypriniformes:Cyprinidae)

Abstract:
Fishes of the genus Sikukia (Cyprinidae:Barbinae) can be distinguished from other fishes of Barbinae in several characters, such as snout shorter, eyes bigger, adipose eyelid absent etc. So far three species have been recorded. We report a new species S longibarbata in this paper, so there are totally four species now. All of them can be found in Lancangjiang river, Yunnan. Sikukia longibarbata sp. nov. Holotype:KIZ 9606078,standard length 62mm;Menglun,Xishuangbanna,Lancanji ang river system,June,1996. Paratypes:7 specimens,KIZ 9606074,9606085,9606090,9606079-082,standard length 52-76mm,collecting localities and dae same as Holotype. D.3-8;A.3-5;P.1-14-15;V.1-9.Lateral line.30-33;predorsal scales 11-12;circumpeduncule scales 14;gill rakers 10-12;pharyngeal teeth 3 rows. Depth 2 7-3 6,head 3 7-4 4,length of caudal peduncle 3 7-4 4,depth of caudal peduncle 7 4-8 9 in standard length;snout 3 2-4 0,eyes 3 2-4 0,interorbital width 2 5-2 9 in head length;depth of caudal peduncle 1 3-1 5 in its length. The first species of the genus Sikukia,S gudgeri without barbels occurs only in Thailand. The remaining 3 species including the two species with developed barbels are distributed in lower reach of Lancangjiang, South western Yunnan.
