THE DESIGNING FEATURES OF THE NATIONAL AGRICUL-TURAL ATLAS OF THE PEOPLE''S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

Abstract:
National Agricultural Atlas of the Peopleoes Republic of China is one of the volumes of National Atlas and published in 1990. This atlas comprehensively, systematically and accurately reflects the basic conditions of china's agricultural production and distribution on the basis of a wealth of data and research achievements. It is not only an important reference for the national overall plan and agricultural production, but also a basic guide for the scientific research and education. The size of the National Agricultural Atlas is 34.0X50.4 cm, consisting of 160 pages of maps, about 300 of which are coloured maps with the national map of the scale of 1:10 000 000-1:40000 000, and maps of typical areas on the scale 1:50 000-1:200000. The maps are divided into the following 5 map groups: 1. Preface maps. 2. Agricultural natural conditions and resources. 3- Agricultural social economic conditions and technical level. 4. Distribution features and production levels of different agricultural branches. 5. Agricultural land use. The designing features of this atles are: 1. Selecting thoughtfully the subjects guided by the macro-agricultural system. 2. Displaying comprehensively and systematically the features and the changes of china's agricultural production. 3. Displaying fully the newest accomplishments of scientific researches in geo-sciences and agricultural sciences. 4- A combination of remote sensing mapping, computer-aided cartography and conventional cartography.
