A STUDY ON THE FUNCTIONAL ORGANIZATION OF HENAN''S URBAN SYSTEM
|
Abstract:
On the administrative-economic map of China, Henan is situated in the central part bet-ween the east and west, and the north and the south, and takes a key position in the regional development of China. It can be predicted that the functional organization of Henan's urban system will exert profound influences not only on the economic-social development of Henan, but also on the strategic deployment of regional development of this country. On the basis of a probe into the historical, economic and regional backgrounds, this paper gives a general conception to the functional organization of Henan's urban system: (1) The system should form a hierarchy structure of four ranks composed of 1 provincial center city, 3 provincial sub-center cities, 10 regional center cities and 10 local cities. The hierarchy rank is the fundamental frame for the functional organization of the system. (2) The func-tional organization should have a spetial pattern of "One Point and Three City Circles", a pro-vincial center city, a nucleus circle of cities, an intermediate circle of cities and a periphe-ral circle of cities, which reflects the uneven arrangements of Henan's regional development. (3) The primary city Zhengzhou should take part in the combination of growths in size and intensity, and it should be the core in Henan Province which connects the east and the middle parts of China. (4) The three city circles should have different patterns of functional organi-zation: a network pattern in the nucleus circle, a point-axis pattern in the intermediate circle and a growing pole pattern in the peripheral circle.
