BIG SCIENTIFIC THOUGHT AND DEVELOPMENTAL PROBLEM OF CONTEMPORARY GEOGRAPHY

Combining "establishing the system in geographical science" proposed by Mr. Qian Xue-sen, This paper advocates regarding current big scientific thought as the starting point of researching the developmental problem of contemportary geography, and puts forward that thought of developing "big geography" regarding the big science as consult frame. First, that contemporary geography poses the condition of becoming big science is proved from several aspects such as object system, task system, Knowledge system and basic methodology. Secondly some theoretical problems about "big geography" namely, (1) the range and structure system of "big geography" (2) methodology of "big geography"; (3) functional properties of "big geography" are researched. Finally, channels of conemporary geography transforming to "big geography" are introduced.
