Abstract:

From 1942 to 1948, Dr. Huang Jiqing (T. K. Huang) and his assistant (the author) made a detailed research on the Permian of Huayingshan Mountain in Sichuan Province, and worked out a complelte fossil list, chiefly brachiopoda and coral, which is given in this paper. Although it has been 35 years since then, yet it is still valuable in research on the Permian in Southwest China today. The paper holds that the Yanwanggou Series which is composed of thin bedded shaly limestone of 20-25 m thick with abundant Permo-Carboniferous brachiopoda (see fossil list under the coding fs42-21, fs42-22b in Chinese) is not equal to Liangshan Member (basal part of Qixia Formation, Middle Permian), but is the lower part of Permian of Southwest China which was tri-partited by Dr. Huang in 1970s, and that the establishment of Wushisanti Member which was separated from the former Qixia Formation by Dr. Huang in 1942 to be an individual member lying on the basal part of Maokou Formation, provides a correct way for the subdivision between Qixia Formation and Maokou Formation and confirms that two transgressions had occurred in Southwest China in the Middle Permian(see the following table).
