New Geological Observations along the Indepth-Seismic Profile, South Tibet
|
Abstract:
The paper presents the preliminary geological observations including four aspects along the INDEPTH-I seismic profile. 1. It has been found that the detachment between the High Himalayan crystalline rocks and the Tethyan sediments is located northwest of Pagri; 2. A suite of Tethyan sediments has been discovered north of Pagri, implying that the detachment northwest of Pagri extends across the Yadong rift without apparent offset, and, therefore, the Yadong Cross Structure, if exists, does not necessarily extends across Pagri area; 3. In the Tethys Himalaya zone, two large-medium scale thrust faults have been confirmed, demonstrating remarkable shortening during the Himalayan orogenesis, 4. The Kangmar Dome has undergone two phases of deformation, the earlier phase is characterized by the top-to-north movement and the later one by doming.
