GPS Monitoring along the Red River Fault
|
Abstract:
The Red River fault zone is a gigantic sliding fault zone. On the basis of GPS observations in Yunnan in 1999 and 2003, the velocity vector diagram was drawn against the Eurasia reference framework. The average velocity is 3.726 mm/a in east direction and-9.013 mm/a in north direction. The velocity component of the GPS stations in the north is reduced from north to south, and that in the east is reduced from west to east. In the surveying zone, the GPS stations show obvious extensional and right_lateral strike_slip movement. An analysis of the features of the horizontal movement in the Red River zone reveals that the faulting activity characteristics are quite consistent with geological results.
