Abstract:

The mineral deposit under discussion is a major Cu-Ni sulfide deposit in the concentration area of Cu-Ni mineralization at Karatongke, Xinjiang. The ore-bearing intrusion emplaced in the Lower Carboniferous Nanmingshui Formation shows excellent magmatic differentiation, consisting successively of diorite facies, norite facies, hyperite facies, and diabasegabbro (chill zone) in an ascending order. The intrusion is lenticular in shape and is 0.023 km3 in volume. While all the rocks are mineralized, the main ore bodies occur in the middle and lower parts of the intrusion and are composed of disseminated ores formed by in-situ differentiation of the ore-bearing magma after its emplacement and compact-massive ore formed by subsequent injection of the liquated ore-bearing solution of the anatectic magma. The two types of ores show a remarkable geological and physico-chemical interface and are characterized by their superimposed occurrance. The ores have high contents of Cu and Ni, with the former higher than the latter, and contain precious metals and rare element which can be used as byproducts. Genetically, the deposit is a Cu-Ni sulfide of magmatic liquation and superimposition.
